    Just finished installing IQ3 Pro on my single-door garage. This video was very helpful. My opener is a 1997 LiftMaster Security+ and works perfectly with Tailwind. I bought the J-clamp version and found that the clamp isn't very secure since the "J" form of the sensor doesn't truly align with the "J" rail and with the way the locking screw works. I ended up really REALLY tightening it and it now seems to be holding to the rail. We'll see over time and seasonal temperature swings. I think it's amazing how a 13 minute install video makes everything look super easy but in reality the whole ordeal took over an hour including a bit of trial and error. 100% glad Tailwind is Canadian.

    • @TailwindGarage

      @@r6u356une56ney we conducted surveys during the design phase and asked if they would like an Ethernet port. Lots of yes answers. Then we asked if they currently had an Ethernet cable that ran to their garage and if not, would they be willing to install one? Most answers to that were No, but still some yes. Then we asked if they would be willing to pay the roughly $5 to $7 extra it would cost to add the Ethernet option (we didn’t want to make 2 different models - so it was WiFi + Ethernet or just WiFi). When we asked that question all answers came back as “No”, so the Ethernet port was pulled from the design. All of that said, Tailwind is doing very well and growing. We recognize there are applications and customers that would benefit from having an Ethernet port. There might be something on the roadmap to address that segment of the market.

      If you have the auto-open configured it will open the garage door when you arrive. If you use your garage as your main entrance to your home like many people do, then nothing really changes except you parked in the driveway instead of the garage. But if you arrive home and decide you want to park in the driveway this time and DON'T go into the house through the garage, you'll just have to close it. That's it.

    I'm still on the fence about what solution to get. I understand the issue with MyQ's lack of integration with home integration platforms. It would be really nice for someone to provide a detailed breakdown /comparison of all viable contenders, functionality and price points for 1-3 openers. Personally, I like the idea of having wireless sensor unit like MyQ provides. Or maybe having a local solution (no cloud) is a deal breaker for someone, which might rule out MyQ for others. Is there a Consumer Report for this category. i.e. Smart Garage solutions

  • @delinquense
    @delinquense 6 місяців тому

    Much ado has been made about the MyQ and Home Assistant integration issue of late. I can assure you that 99% of Chamberlain's customers are not technical users to the extent that not having API access would matter to them. They want the solution to do a few things like remote access and door position sensing which it does. The majority are probably not even using Home Assistant and may decide to opt for more mainstream solutions. Chamberlain has no doubt invested significantly in its products. For them to support an open software solution like this doesn't provide any revenue and in fact would only be an expense. If you were CEO of Chamberlain, what would you do? The only way you would get them to buy in would be if everyone just refused to buy their offerings unless Home Assistant integrations worked with MyQ. Realistically, I don't believe that day will ever come. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how much a support license would cost? Perhaps it isn't that onerous. You can inquire on their website as they provide an inquiry form. *** Also, might I suggest adding one of those charts (with checkmarks ) that indicate what platforms (Google home, Homelink, Home Assistant, etc) , are supported by some of your competitors vs Tailwind. This would greatly help potential customers... And perhaps prevent them from making ill informed decisions.

    What isn't shown here ... a multi-door installation, which most people will have, will need wires running along ALL of your doors J rails for the sensors (like indicated in the video)... plus another set of wires for each connection to the single multi-channel controller unit. If you have a 2 door garage, this means the wire runs will be very long, not to mention a 3 door garage. (In this case, you could put the controller on the middle opener to reduce the length of the wire runs from the other doors)

      Thank you. Most of our customers actually have 1 garage door based on ordering patterns, but you are correct - we didn't show a multi-door installation as we tried to keep the video as short as possible while still hitting the important points. We do mention that additional door kits are required for multiple doors in the video, and further guidance is provided in the user manual that ships with the product. Tailwind additional door kits come with almost 33 feet of wire to accommodate high ceilings, etc. We try to make sure you have enough for almost any installation.

      If you share access with her under the "share access" menu, she will log into the Tailwind app using her email address and password. Then she will tap on "vehicle list" and add the vehicle in her app on her phone.

    why doesn't it work with Apple, since apple has Bluetooth?

      It does work fine with iPhones, but if you want the auto-open feature you need a vehicle sensor because Apple does not allow apps to detect the presence of vehicle Bluetooth connections.

    I bought the Tailwind product for 1 of my garage doors. Liked it so much, immediately bought another. Buying a product like this, that has to interface to many different openers and smart apps is only as good as the customer service (as even the technically smart will run into a problem). Scott provides amazing service. I highly recommend Tailwind.

    Is there any update on the garage icons in google home being functional? At least a way to know if the door(s) is open or closed by looking at the icon? Or is it all still only voice activated?

      Not yet. I was pestering them about this earlier this month. They have not implemented an icon to actually control garage door device types. Hopefully more people request it and they’ll move faster on it :)

      @@scottriesebosch7832 thanks. So the garage door icons do not do anything at the moment? To do anything has to be thru voice? How about part of a routine (say sunset) that will allow it to say the status of the doors at sunset?

    I have a question about auto opening: On some days my wife will open the garage door about 10% to let airflow through the house. When the door is in that position and I approach the house with my car will the door just shut? Or is Tailwind smart enough to know that it just shut and then send the signal again to open the door?

    • @TailwindGarage
      @TailwindGarage 3 роки тому

      Actually in that particular case Tailwind would detect that the door is already open and would not send any commands to the garage door opener as you approach home because the door sensor would detect that the door is "not closed", which is determined by the system as "open". In short, it can only determine door states of "open" and "closed". If it is already open, even partially, that is interpreted as "open". Interestingly Tailwind does have a command in the app for partial open. You can tap and hold on the door icon and it will open the door part way (you set how far), but it can still only determine open or closed states as the door sensor trips when the door is fully closed. Anything other than "fully closed" is considered "open"

      @@TailwindGarage Thanks. One more question: I may not want to open automatically while returning home so can I say, "OK GOOGLE, open my garage door"?

    • @TailwindGarage
      @TailwindGarage 3 роки тому

      @@Chucka1463 yes you can. Google does require a PIN code, so it would be "Ok Google, open the garage door", then Google will ask for a PIN code. You say the PIN code and the door opens. This is a Google security requirement that they apply to any device that gives access to your home - so same thing for smart door locks as well.

    Thanks for the video! Perhaps this functionality has always been available and I just never noticed. Either way, it’s a great fix.....no more having a door close when I’m working and out of the garage on a weekend! Still loving the product!

      Hi Jeff. We actually just added this feature recently so we wanted to let our UA-cam subscribers know about it and how to use it.

    Are we forced to use a pin code for Google Home / Assistant? If we do, why? That is an extra step I am not forced to use with other smart devices (Even Locks) and do not want to add that extra step. It also will probably prevent my wife from wanting to use it at all.

    • @TailwindGarage
      @TailwindGarage 4 роки тому

      You only need the PIN code for opening the garage door. You do not need it for closing or checking status. This is MANDATORY by Google because it allows access to your home. They have the same policy for door locks. There is no way to bypass this Google requirement for opening / unlocking access to your home unless you do a workaround through IFTTT or something like that.
